Rome Arrival
September 17, 2006
I had intended to get here in the late afternoon, but the flight from Milan was delayed for hours and hours ... I could have come on the train in shorter time. Oh, well.
The hotel here is nice.
I'm staying right on top the Esquiline Hill, on the plaza the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the most important churches in Rome. This is an exceedingly un-fancy neighborhood, but it is very convenient to the train station and the hotel is clean and comfortable.
My idea was to get out and tour about Rome and to get acclimated a bit. It's totally dark here now. I think I'll get dinner in the neighborhood and then take a stroll into the center of the city.
